Shades From the Breath of Hell, Michael and Florian Quistrebert's custom installation, opening today at the SoHo Diesel Denim Gallery (68 Greene Street), is the latest collaboration between Diesel USA and curator Sebastien Agneessens and Formavision.
The multimedia exhibition, created by these French brothers for Diesel Denim Gallery, utilizes the space to manifest a surreal environment reminiscent of a film set in which the duo appears in various tableaux inspired by rock, folk culture, and neo-romanticism.
Menacing ghost figures and eerie lighting enhance the artists' interpretation of their paranoid mythology.
Florian and Michael Quistrebert have worked together since 2002 on a narrative graphic universe filled with clashing references.
Their sculptural or visual compositions often take a mischievously academic appearance, in which grand, baroque iconography takes center stage.
Sebastien Agneessens, founder of curating agency Formavision, is a New York City-based brand curator who strives to create common ground between contemporary art and commercial brands, seeking to expose art to broader audiences.
