On the occasion of the 100 year jubilee of Norwegian sovereignty the red dot design museum showcases the touring exhibition "Not only Salmon and Sausages - Ikke bare laks og pølser, Hundred Years of German-Norwegian Relationship", which was initiated by the Norsk Teknisk Museum in Oslo.
The exhibition is part of the 58th illumination weeks in Essen, an event of the Essen Marketing GmbH (EMG).
As part of the series "Europe in Essen" the illumination festival is presenting the "host country Norway".
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Berlin and the E.ON Ruhrgas AG promote the cultural programme of the illumination weeks in Essen.
Along with the exhibition the red dot design museum shows a selection of Norwegian products that have won a red dot for their outstanding design creation.
On 17 October 2007 Her Majesty, Queen Sonja of Norway, will be guest of the red dot design museum and visit the exhibition.
Salmon and sausages - two keywords standing for two countries that have been cultivating a very close relationship during the past 100 years, for better or for worse.
The 100-year jubilee of Norwegian sovereignty was an occasion to design a touring exhibition reflecting the common history of Norway and Germany.
"Not only Salmon and Sausages - Ikke bare laks og pølser" provides a sometimes scientific, sometimes humorous-ironic setting for the complex history of the German Norwegian encounters in the 20th century.
