The Hannover-based universal design association and iF (International Forum Design GmbH) invite contestants to compete in the first-ever "universal design award 08" competition.

Both of these design organizations have occupied themselves for over five years with the subject of universal design in the fields of architecture, interior design, product design and service design.

The global demographic shift and its impact on the quality of life for everyone is increasingly understood as a social challenge worldwide.

Despite extensive knowledge and research on this topic, there are currently no international standards for universal design, nor is there a common, intercultural understanding of it.

Universal design can be considered a design challenge for the coming decades.

A consistent implementation of the criteria of universal design will play a major role in establishing concepts and product solutions on a sustained basis in the marketplace.

The first international universal design award consciously includes both a professional jury and a consumer rating.

The winners will be presented exclusively at the "design: driving innovation" special display within the scope of CeBIT 2008 in Hannover, Germany.

Registration deadline is January 7, 2008.
