Cooper Lighting, a division of Cooper Industries, Ltd.(NYSE: CBE - News), today announced that it has won a Silver 2004 Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for its ICON, SLIDE, and FLITE architectural luminaires. These luminaires were introduced in February 2004, as part of Cooper's new outdoor architectural lighting system, INVUE(TM). Presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and sponsored by BusinessWeek, the IDEA is widely regarded as the premiere award for industrial design.
"We are honored to receive this prestigious award," said Dave Feldman, president of Cooper Lighting. "INVUE luminaires are truly innovative in both style and construction. Blending effortlessly into traditional or contemporary architectural settings, these fixtures are designed to withstand a lifetime of harsh outdoor conditions. In addition, a superior reflective surface helps ensure that light is used in the most efficient and effective way possible. This leading edge feature not only reduces energy costs, but also diminishes light pollution and light trespass, a growing concern among communities and a growing focus of legislative action."
This year's IDEA judges evaluated more than 1,294 entries. Thirty-seven entries received a Gold award; forty-five received Silver; and forty-eight were given a Bronze award. INVUE's
