Sony Pictures Launches Animation Channel Animax in India
Sony Pictures Television International Tuesday announced the launch of an animation channel for viewers of all ages in India.

The launch of the Animax South Asia service will also make the channel available in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

In January, Animax Asia was launched with three dedicated services for Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

Todd Miller, managing director of Sony Pictures Television International, said Animax could now be seen in over 5.6 million homes across Asia, including Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Philippines, the Maldives, Vietnam and Indonesia.

"Animax Asia will be locally aligned, fun, hip, and will be a new and exciting experience for millions of viewers across India," he said.

"With themes that transcend language, culture and origin, we are sure Animax will enjoy as much success in India as it has across Asia."

Completely dubbed in English, the channel will feature animation works by Japan's top producers and studios, including global successes such as "Astro Boy", "Gundam" and "Dragon Ball".

In addition to English, a four-hour time block targeting kids will be dubbed in Hindi to enhance the channel's appeal.

Sony Entertainment Television will represent Animax in advertising and sales.
