Swiss Milking Tradition Meets Modern Design

Swiss Milking Tradition Meets Modern Design
Doubt no more. Swiss traditional milking stools as interpreted by Swiss artists, designers and students from ECAL (University of Art and Design of Lausanne, Switzerland) are on display at swissnex September 9-24.

The celebrated design exhibition "the milking stool", a showcase of
imaginative variations of a traditional artifact of rural Switzerland, tours
the West Coast. The show opens at swissnex on September 9 and later travels to
the Vitra showroom in Santa Monica.

The work of renowned European and international designers, including Yves
Behar (Fuseproject -- currently exhibiting at SFMOMA), as well as ECAL
students is displayed through a surprising array of modern milking stools.

ECAL first conceived of the milking stool exhibition in 2002 under the
leadership of the school's director, Pierre Keller.

Later that year, Keller unveiled it at the Swiss Cultural Center in Milan in conjunction with the
International Furniture Fair in line with the current theme: the chair. The
show has since gained critical acclaim in Europe, Asia and the East Coast.
