
Each Sim also has fears to contend with, like rejection, fire or the loss of a loved one. The aspiration model makes Sims 2 a little more game-like than the original, with achievable goals and something akin to a score. But Sims 2 is still essentially a freeform romp, requiring only that you keep your Sims fed, clean and rested. The rest is up to you.
Rachel loves Mike. Mike loves Rachel. Mike also loves Carol and is trying to seduce Alice. Rachel punched Mike and wept hysterically when she saw him flirt with Alice, which was a little hypocritical since she is also having an affair with Carol. Surprisingly, Ted, a child adopted by Rachel and Mike, seems to take all this in stride.
Sims 2, a much enhanced version of the life-simulation game from Maxis, is the video-game answer to reality television shows like "The Real World" and "Big Brother." Like those shows, Sims 2 allows the lives of its characters to unfold in moments of chaos and carnality.
But unlike television, in which the audience is confined to the role of passive viewer, the game puts you into the action in the role of a god. And not a distant, magnanimous god, but one of those petty Roman gods who amuse themselves by toying with people.
