Mace Ranch Community Park, split between kids' play areas and wildlife habitat, is taking shape on the drawing board.
In September, the Davis City Council approved a "hybrid" design for the park, which allocates about five acres of the 23-acres site to sports fields and approximately six to naturalized areas. It also sets aside six for a community center and one for an existing city well site. An additional five acres were already developed, and that area includes turf, a children's play area and landscaping.
Several spots around the habitat area will feature public art pieces created as part of the city's program to enhance neighborhood parks through art, which began last summer. Sacramento artist Sam Tubiolo has designed a set of art pieces for the park.
