Tanya Carlson: Hot Orchid Blooms on Fashion Week Stag

Tanya Carlson Hot Orchid Blooms on Fashion Week Stag
Rock chicks glammed up in velvet satin and silks lent drama to the catwalk as Carlson unveiled her Winter 05 collection, 'Hot Orchid'.

With hair in sleek top-knots and pale faces with stark red lips, Tanya Carlson's models showed her penchant for rock royalty to a rocking soundtrack proving the girls do indeed Wear it Well as Rod Stewart would say, and were also Heroes just for one day as Bowie sang.

Pictured above, a model's look in a men's style suit jacket is softened with a satin pussy-bow blouse and long a-line skirt; as though she had to borrow her boyfriend's jacket out at the casino or after the ball.

Key shapes included floor-length, high-waisted frocks, high-waisted pants, elaborate sweeping skirts, and lavish gathered sleeves finished with tiny buttons. The collection gives an ironic twist to iconic fabrics and shapes, with influences from art nouveau to Edwardian - mixed with the dandified decadence of 70s rock icons.

"For me, it was an opportunity to really celebrate what Carlson is all about," Carlson says. "It brings together my favourite colours and fabrics, and explores the ritual and art of dressing up, where you really go to town with hair, makeup and shoes and commit to doing up lots of tiny buttons and fitting yourself into clothing that's waisted and restrained."
