Library Design Sails Through
A design to build a ship-shape library in Portishead is gathering wind in its sails as councillors have given it their backing.

The four million pound library, at Wyndham Way, has been designed by NVB Architects from Frome and is based on a sailing vessel to reflect the sea-going heritage of the town.

At a meeting of Portishead and North Weston Town Council councillors to recommend approval ofoutline planning permission for the building.

The decision takes development company PG Enterprises one step closer to making the new building a reality.

The company's managing director, Ian Walker, said: "We are absolutely delighted the town council has recommended this outline application for approval.

"The move brings the regeneration of this important site within Portishead one step closer.

"We look forward to continuing to work closely with our partners to see this site developed."

North Somerset Council's north area committee will make a final decision about the proposal and, if it is approved, a more detail planning application will be submitted.

The new library will be a one-stop shop to include areas for children and teenagers as well as an exhibition area, meeting rooms, a cafe, a landscaped court and will provide access to council services. It will also feature offices and a mix of residential apart
