Nineteen finalists snipped, coloured and styled their way into the hearts of the judges and audience, comprising the crème de la crème of the Malaysian fashion and hairdressing circles, but it was Johor Baru hairdresser Eric Tan Wee Siong who emerged the night’s grand-prize winner.
The 26-year-old from Elle Studio in Johor Baru won the coveted L’Oreal Colour Trophy, a RM145,000 Ford Escape 2.0 Litre SUV and a trip to London, in addition to guaranteed publicity in magazines and salon marketing kits.
His creation – a simple asymmetrical bob of muted copper, silver and ash blue that was long in the front and sides, but short and sharply layered at the back – epitomised the event’s “Dual Beauty” theme and was a clear favourite with the audience.
“It was inspired by the clean, simple lines in architecture,̶ 1; explained the hairdresser of eight years after the event came to a close, adding, “I chose these particular colours because they signify the current winter trends.”
Tan was tops in the South Malaysia Zone category, in addition to winning the Female Choice and Shu Uemura Makeup awards.
