Prestigious Red Dot Award Comes to Singapore
The internationally coveted design award, Red Dot, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is creating a new category for concept design.

For the first time in its history, this award will be based outside Germany - in Singapore.

'As the international home of the new category, Singapore will serve as a platform for discovery and showcase of the best concepts that creative minds worldwide have to offer,' said Tham Khai Meng, deputy chairman of DesignSingapore Council. 'In turn, the presence of the Award promises to raise both the standard and profile of Singapore design.'

The Red Dot Award: Concept Design is an international competition open to anyone with any invention, innovation, novelty design and aesthetic design that is uncommissioned and not in the market.

The existing Red Dot Award is an internationally acclaimed title, with the Apple iPod, Lamborghini and various Sony VAIO notebooks staking claim to the prestigious award.

Professor Peter Zec, president of Red Dot Awards, said that Asia is the place to look towards for new designs and innovation. 'Asia is the future. Asians are very good at taking and adapting ideas from all over the world,' he said.
