Spreadshirt: New UK Website Makes Everyone a Fashion Designer

Spreadshirt New UK Website Makes Everyone a Fashion Designer
A new website launched last week in the UK gives Internet users with a flair for design the opportunity to start their own fashion house from their desktop.

Spreadshirt allows designers to market a range of clothing from dresses, underwear and jackets to t-shirts, sweatshirts, and caps.

Surfers who fancy themselves as the next Stella McCartney can add their own designs or catchy slogans to over 50 products.

Spreadshirt then creates an online store where the designer can set the prices for their new collection and add the new store to their own website.

That's where the work ends for the designer, as Spreadshirt handles payment, manufacture, shipping and customer service.

The Spreadshirt model has taken Europe by storm over the last three years, with over 60,000 designers and website owners creating their own clothing lines.

Websites run by companies, rock bands, clubs, football fans, schools and colleges have grabbed the opportunity to sell brand-name merchandise without taking on startup costs or distribution hassles.

T-shirts featuring iconic designs are particularly popular although the more daring have created their own saucy lines of thongs and boxer shorts.

Formed in 2002 in Germany, Spreadshirt is a privately-held company based in Leipzig with offices in Spain, Ireland and the USA.
