A group of Bendigo students is working to put its designs in the spotlight at an upcoming fashion show.
As part of the statewide Fashion Eisteddfod 2005, about 90 Bendigo Senior Secondary College students will compete to win an industry internship and a chance to have their wares on the catwalk.
Fashion teacher Lyn Schroeder said the competition was an opportunity for the students to get an insight into the fashion industry.
She said each student had to come up with a design and construct a storyboard with detailed drawings, fabric samples and costings.
The process is very different to what they learn as part of their VCE studies.
"What the students now have to do is spend a lot of time developing a folio to fulfil their VCE requirements," Ms Schroeder said.
"But this (competition) is actually very much how it works in the industry, so it is great experience for them."
There will be five fashion categories, and 30 finalists from each category will have their design made into a pattern.
