Groundbreaking Southern California-based RKS Guitars was honored with two 2005 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), as announced on June 24 by the Industrial Designers of America (IDSA), the leading voice of the industrial design profession.
The prestigious annual competition is co-sponsored by IDSA and BusinessWeek Magazine, whose current issue announcing all of the 2005 IDEA winners features an eye-popping, neon green RKS "Pop Series" guitar on its front cover.
The IDEA Awards celebrate the previous year's best and most innovative designs, and are dedicated to growing business and consumer awareness regarding the importance of industrial design excellence to our quality of life and the overall health of the economy.
Other products cited this year include Philippe Starck's VIOlight Toothbrush Sanitizer and Apple's iPod Shuffle and Mac Mini.
RKS Guitars' two Silver IDEA wins were in the Consumer Products category for its electric-hued, user-friendly "Pop Series" of instruments, and in the prestigious Design Strategy category for RKS' proprietary "Open Architecture" construction.
RKS Guitars' dramatic neck-through-body design, customizable features and uniquely engineered sonics represent the most revolutionary structural and aesthetic design overhaul and renewal that the instrument has seen in fifty years.
