Beijing Interior by Bernard Tschumi Architects

Beijing Interior by Bernard Tschumi Architects
Bernard Tschumi Architects approached the Infinite Interior project as an opportunity to explore the possibility of using bamboo, a traditional Asian building material that is both inexpensive and environmentally sustainable, in unexpected and innovative ways. The apartment unit is therefore treated as a laboratory for testing this material.

Literally everything in the unit is made of bamboo, including floors, ceilings, window coverings, furnishings, and kitchen and bathroom appliances.

They have also designed two new space-dividing systems, both made of bamboo: one is a partition composed of panels that fold and rotate to create walls and corridors; the other is a system of sliding partitions which expand to create temporary divisions within a room.

These systems provide the apartment's residents with the flexibility to design their space according to changing needs.
