Greener Rutgers Campus

Greener Rutgers Campus
Rutgers University announced five finalists in the competition to remake the College Avenue campus.

The school selected five architectural firms from among 15 teams responding to the university's worldwide search, and they will compete to design the proposed greening of a College Avenue closed to traffic and a new academic building.

In a written statement, university President Richard L. McCormick praised the finalists as "among the finest minds in their field."

"Working together with a wide array of representatives from the Rutgers community, we will transform the College Avenue campus into an inspiring academic environment that is worthy of our great state and this outstanding university," he said.

McCormick first presented the university's vision for the College Avenue campus along with New Brunswick Mayor Jim Cahill in February, focusing on the transformation of city-owned College Avenue into a pedestrian friendly public space.

The leaders of the five design teams have demonstrated experience in the preparation of plans for academic environments.

Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners LLP of New York in conjunction with Ateliers Jean Nouvel of Paris lead one team.
