First Prize in a Design Workshop Given to Behnisch Architekten

Behnisch Architekten have been awarded first prize in a design workshop for an international standard concert hall in the centre of the historic city of Ventspils, Latvia.

The 3-day international workshop, which took place at the end of November 2005, was organised by the Ventspils City Council in order to promote a dialogue about the future development of the city centre and rejuvenation of an important park.

The project brief called for a planning strategy for a new 800 seat concert hall and its integration within the park together with a fountain and various artworks.

9 Teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, The Netherlands, Ireland and Germany participated in this workshop.

Behnisch Architekten's astounding constructivist approach led the firm to receive the first prize.
