Homelessness is a problem that affects many people across the globe, but "isn't designing a shelter-cart just a temporary solution - like applying a band-aid - instead of effecting a cure?"
While we would dearly love to see affordable housing for all it just seems impossible in these times of economical restraint and government inaction.
Holding a design competition like this will have some interesting impacts, drawing attention to the issue of homelessness and our environment.
Why Use a Cart?
You can regularly see shopping trollies (ab)used for collecting, sorting and transporting materials, but this cannot be the only solution as sooner or later the police will reclaim any shopping trollies they find (each worth about $300) and its contents.
The homeless person may have to spend a night in jail and will lose all of his belongings.
The first step in information exposure is to make sure that the communication signal is carrying information and is not just random noise.
Therefore Designboom asks you to consider the communicative value of your entry in raising awareness of these issues.
