DesignLines magazine, the ultimate guide to design in the city, is bigger than ever.
Since its launch in 2001 as a sister publication to Azure magazine, DesignLines has continually grown in size and scope.
New DesignLines spring 2006 issue reviews over 150 design stores and furniture showrooms in the city.
"DesignLines is geared for the design consumer who wants to source the hottest contemporary design showrooms, avant-garde art galleries, select restaurants, boutique hotels and best designed spas," says new editor Catherine Osborne.
"We've also put the spotlight on creators who are redefining our city's vibrancy, including Christina Zeidler, who spearheaded the recent transformation of the Gladstone Hotel by inviting local artists to design 36 unique guest rooms."
Says Osborne, "The city is constantly transforming. I want to reflect that in DESIGNLINES, so we've kept a close eye on the changes.
Ossington Avenue, for instance, used to be down-and-out, but start-up restaurants and bars are revitalizing the street.
We asked local writer Lisa Rundle to report on it for our Scene feature."
Also featured: Micah Toub on Doublenaut, a trio of young graphic artists who are creating edgy posters for bands like Modest Mouse and Green Day, and Denise Balkissoon on artist Charlie Patcher's million-dollar gallery reno in the heart of Chinatown.
