Designers Need to Know Their Statutory Rights!

Designers Need to Know Their Statutory Rights
On 25 May, the Design Business Association (DBA) will formally launch its latest service, which provides a series of legal precedents (templates) designed to offer employment guidelines and contracts tailored to the specific needs of a design business.

To mark the launch, the DBA hosts an evening seminar with James Selby-Bennett, a leading employment law specialist at Humphries Kirk, who sets the scene for existing and prospective employers, pointing out some of the pitfalls that people fall into inadvertently when offering contracts or conditions of employment.

He is supported by two additional design management consultants - Henry Lydiate and Rachel Smart.

The seminar for senior executives and HR/personnel managers is open to members and non-members of the DBA and is free of charge.

Those wishing to attend should apply by 22 May.

In addition to their permanent workforce, many design businesses use freelancers or self-employed contractors on site.

Employment policies and processes are vital to protecting a business against litigation, and correctly defined contracts are central to this.

Also on the agenda on 25th May will be the hot topic of the Age Discrimination Act, due to be introduced in October 2006.
