Seagate Sponsors Design Contest for Mobile Hard Drives
In a contest that began Monday, Seagate is asking users aged 14 to 28 to come up with an "innovative, mobile device" that will hold a 20-Gbyte Seagate removeable hard drive.

The prize is $5,000 for the winner, and $1,000 each for the five runners-up.

Users don't have to submit a design portfolio, they can sketch the proposed device, describe it in a paragraph or essay, or film a prototype in an everyday environment.

Users will be judged on "creativity, technical feasibility, practicality, and simplicity for an enjoyable user experience," according to Seagate.

The contest is not a solicitation for a free product idea; Seagate's intent is not to make the device itself, the spokeswoman said.
