Design Within Reach announces the call for entries for its 4th annual holiday Champagne Chair Contest.
Last year's contest drew more than 600 submissions from countries all over the world, including New Zealand, Ecuador, Croatia and Malaysia, as well as from 42 states across the U.S.
The Champagne Chair Contest has become a much-anticipated yearly event, challenging participants to create a chair no larger than 4"x4"x4" from nothing more than the wire, cork and foil of two champagne bottles, glue being the only permitted adhesive.
Last year's winning chair, called the Patrick Chair, was submitted by Krista Charles of Indianapolis, IN.
Krista crafted The Patrick Chair from a single cork, sliced with a jeweler's saw, Charles was "amazed at how quickly the character of the cork led to my design." Judge Topher Delany understood that immediately, commenting that "the chair seems to come from the essence of the cork."
This year, DWR is excited to partner with Veuve Clicquot for the Champagne Chair Competition and Tour.
Veuve Clicquot will create custom chair building kits for distribution at DWR Studios that include cork, foil, cages and labels.
